North Watch (E13): Return to Fallcrest

North Watch (E13): Return to Fallcrest

Summer 14, 1441 TR

The session started with the orcs and the ogre leaping to attack the party while most of them slept. The initial surprise led to some serious injuries among the party but no one died. After the surprise, good rolls and tactics quickly turned the ambush against the humanoids and within a couple of rounds the combat was over.

In the aftermath of the orc and ogre ambush, an intense mental “sound” resonated in the entire party’s head at the same time. Everyone got Intelligence Saving Throws. Agatha and Joscelin failed the Saving Throw and immediately went into a catatonic state. Everyone waited for a few minutes to see if they would snap out of it but they didn’t. Sharwyn cast Rope Trick and everyone got into the safe space provided by the spell for 3 hours. At the end of the time, Agatha and Joscelin still hadn’t recovered but the party decided to head back to Broken Spire Keep regardless.

Leading the two catatonic people along was slow but not difficult. They shuffled along if led by the hand forward. They just didn’t move very quickly. Fortunately after another hour, the both of the afflicted characters recovered suddenly and were able to move at a faster rate.

Once back in Broken Spire Keep, the party met with Oleane who informed them that the goblins and spiders from the forest came and scouted out the Keep in their absence. They didn’t stick around but they did look. That didn’t seem to bode well. The goblins and spiders were going to be an issue that needed to be addressed.

Oleane kept watch with her wolves while the party rested.

Upon awaking, Sharwyn and Braford mentioned that they had been gone from their duties with The Riders of the Watch for a while now and needed to get back to Fallcrest. Oleane also said she couldn’t continue to be tied to one place as a guard. The party decided to all head back to Fallcrest to get some more information and to deal with the treasure they had obtained.

The party pushed hard and arrived at Fallcrest’s North Gate at 2am. The gate was closed and barred but after verifying their identity, the party was allowed entrance. They made their way to the Rider’s Chapterhouse, where Banner was waiting for them, having been alerted of their return by the guard. The party updated Banner on what had happened since they left. During the debrief they learned that the mental noise that had incapacitated Agatha and Joscelin had been heard all the way back Fallcrest. A good portion of the population had been catatonic for a few hours. The Lord Warden had increased the guard details and had The Septarch looking into what the sound could have been.

The party slept in a bit the next morning and then split up to take care of different business. Here’s what they accomplished.

  • The Septarch let them know that he had traced the “sound” and that it originated somewhere deep in the Underdark. Somewhere far below where they had currently been.
  • The Septarch took the Golden Apple from Kvothe in return he agreed to supply the bard with some spells.
  • Leander said that he could cast the Hallow spell but that Agatha and the party would need to provide the components needed. He was traveling to Nenlast to perform some local weddings and tend to his people’s needs there. He’d be back in a few weeks.
  • Joscelin was looking for better armor. Thistle had a set of magical plate armor but didn’t think Joscelin would want it. It changed the gender of whomever put it on… permanently. It was discounted quite a bit as you could imagine. Joscelin bought it and is now a female Knight.

The party is now planning to head back to Harkin to talk to Andren about Jaylyn. They are hoping to get something of hers that was personal and might help The Septarch pinpoint her location better.
